IFR Training, Toronto, ONAre you a budding commercial pilot or just want to improve your skills as a private pilot? Have you realized that IFR training is an essential part of moving forward, but you’re not sure where to start? At Genesis Flight College, IFR training is one of the four parts of earning your commercial pilot diploma through our unique college training program, and it is also offered as a single program for private pilots. Before you get started, we want to make sure you understand the three types of instrument ratings and what they are for:

  • Group 1 –This type of instrument rating is given when the flight test was completed in a multi-engine plane.
  • Group 2—This rating is given when the flight test was completed in a multi-engine centre line thrust airplane.
  • Group 3—This rating is given when the flight test was completed in a single-engine plane.

You will need a Group 1 instrument rating to be employable in the market; however, as a private pilot, you have a choice.  If you are not going to fly multi-engine aircraft as a private pilot, then just go for the Group 3.  You can always upgrade later. Earning an instrument rating in any one of these groups can be a challenging, but highly rewarding, process. During IFR training, we will do everything we can to ensure you are successful as you move towards earning your instrument rating as part of either a commercial pilot diploma or as a private pilot.

We offer you the flexibility to learn at your own pace and ensure you are always prepared to move on to the next step. We highly recommend paying strict attention as you attend ground school and to only take on as much training as your schedule allows. Knowing your limits and working at a pace that works well for you will ensure your future success as an instrument rated pilot.
