ONE-YEAR COLLEGE DIPLOMA PROGRAM

Genesis Flight College is a unique private career college offering specialized flight training programs focused on exposing students to the most advanced equipment available in the industry. Graduates of the program achieve a COMMERCIAL PILOT DIPLOMA and have the core credentials required to begin flying as a career. The program is designed as a one-on-one training environment where each student has an individual training plan and dedicated flight instructor.

Genesis Fleet

The most compelling and unique aspect of the GENESIS program is that 100% of the training is done in advanced aircraft featuring modern flight instruments (known as a “glass cockpit”). Our Diamond DA40 aircraft and synthetic training equipment featuring the G1000 avionics suite provides a training package found nowhere else in Canada. Students will train right from day one with equipment usually only available to commercial pilots on a jet transition course. Immersing students immediately in the advanced equipment usually only found on jets has proven to provide a significant edge when competing for jobs in the market. Employers see value in hiring pilots who already have experience with glass cockpit environments, saving the employer training time and training cost.

The core program is based on a full-time student completing all components in 12-14 months. The flexible and individual training plan allows the schedule to be modified for each student based on their budget and availability.

The Career Pilot Program has four modules:

  • Private Pilot Licence
  • Commercial Pilot Licence
  • Instrument Rating
  • Multi-engine Rating

Each module has a ground school component and a flight component.

The Private Pilot Licence (PPL) is the first step. A full-time student can get through the PPL in as little as two months. Students who also work or have other commitments can take a year or more to complete the PPL. All program components are customizable based on the individual.

PRIVATE PILOT LICENCE

The Private Pilot Licence (PPL) is the prerequisite licence for entry into the commercial program. The licence involves over 100 hours of classroom/online instruction and about 50 hours of flying. You can expect to “solo” after 15-20 hours of dual time with a flight instructor. Classroom work will focus on subjects that include Air Law and Procedures, Navigation, Meteorology, Theory of Flight, Airframes, Engines and Systems, Flight Instruments, Flight Operations, Pilot Decision-Making and Human Factors in Flying. Upon completion of this training segment, a student will demonstrate proficiency through both a written exam and flight test administered by Transport Canada and earn a Radio Telephone Operator’s Certificate.

COMMERCIAL PILOT LICENCE

The Commercial Pilot Licence term within the program involves about 150 hours of ground instruction and at least 65 hours of structured flight training. Flight training will focus on broadening your skills to include night flying, instrument flying, long-range cross-country flights, and emergency procedures. Classroom work involves revisiting the knowledge areas covered in the Private Licence ground school in more depth with additional concepts related to commercial air carrier operations. The ground school curriculum will cover additional course work not included in the Transport Canada Commercial Licence syllabus, including Crew Resource Management (CRM) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s). Upon attaining a minimum of 150 total hours flying, a student will demonstrate proficiency through both a written exam and flight test administered by Transport Canada.

MULTI-ENGINE RATING

Multi-Engine Rating training involves approximately 20 hours of ground school and briefings and 20 hours flying/simulator time. The ground school will cover such subjects as Multi-Engine aerodynamics, Multi-Engine systems and Multi-Engine Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s). Upon completion of the ground school and flight instruction, a student will demonstrate proficiency through a flight test administered by a Transport Canada approved examiner.

INSTRUMENT RATING

Group 1 Instrument Rating training involves approximately 60 hours of ground school and briefings and 40-45 hours flying/simulator time. The ground school will cover such subjects as IFR Air Traffic Services/Control and Airspace, Weather Theory for IFR Flight, IFR Instruments and Radio Aids, IFR Departure/Enroute/Approach Procedures, and IFR GPS Operations. Upon completion of the ground school and flight instruction, a student will demonstrate proficiency through both a written exam and flight test administered by a Transport Canada approved examiner.

TIME BUILDING

To meet the overall minimum flight time requirements to hold a Commercial Pilot Licence, the student will need to rent the aircraft to go on some trips.  This is the best part of the program!  Students can plan fun cross-country trips with family and friends to build valuable experience in the real world.

GETTING A JOB

The program finishes with a series of classes to help students get their first job. This segment includes training with respect to aviation business knowledge, flight instructing, resume development, interviewing, “sim” ride skills and networking opportunities for contacts and references. In addition, industry tours are arranged to provide further career perspectives for class members.

COSTS

Genesis offers all programs on a “pay-as-you-go” basis. This provides maximum flexibility to students to complete each module on a custom schedule. Each program element has minimum expected costs and possible overages based on the individual learning requirements.

Below are the typical costs:

Private Pilot Licence $33,000
Commercial Pilot Licence $36,000
Multi-Engine Rating $10,000
Instrument Rating (Group 1) $21,000

The amount of flight training necessary fluctuates with each student. Prices are approximate and subject to change without notice. HST extra for all costs. A portion of the program is tax deductible and RESP eligible. Financing available. Student accommodations available.
